Online periodic 'Performa' of Károly Eszterházy University, 2017

This site was created for the on-line philosophy journal of Eszterházy Károly University. The university's 'Performativity' research group publishes philosophical papers in it.

The main challenge in designing the site was to present the publications in a suitable typographic quality. Philosophical publications are typographically complex, for which current browsers are not equipped. The other half of the problem was editing the publications. There are a lot of WYSWIG HTML editors, but I could not find one that could edit the texts with sufficient quality.

I finally decided to try a new solution. I entrusted the display of the publications to an open source e-book reader software developed in javascript(epub.js). I made some modifications to the book reader software, adding interactive display of footnotes and inserting a separation engine. The book reader software displays publications in epub format, so the editing issue was solved. The actual publication editing is done in InDesign, from which the online publication can be exported in epub format and the epub files uploaded to the Exxite CMS that powers the site.
